Ashley Kay Cypher is a dynamic clarinetist and bassoonist whose versatility moves seamlessly from the concert hall to the recording studio. A prize-winning soloist and compelling ensemble musician, she has been featured across orchestral, chamber, operatic, and theater productions throughout the United States and beyond. Currently based in Kansas City, and doubling on both Saxophone and Bassoon, Ashley performs with Symphony Orchestras, Film Studio Orchestras and Musical Theater companies, bringing a warm sound, bold artistry, and an unmistakable musical presence to every stage.
As a conductor, Ashley Cypher brings clarity, energy, and expressive leadership to every ensemble she leads. Equally at ease on the podium with young musicians and seasoned performers, she has directed bands, orchestras, and pit ensembles across the United States. Her rehearsals are known for their precision, momentum, and collaborative spirit — empowering musicians to play with confidence and artistry. Whether shaping a symphonic masterwork or guiding emerging talent, Ashley’s work is driven by a deep belief in the transformative power of ensemble music-making.
As a music educator, Ashley Cypher brings both artistic excellence and student-centered leadership to every learning environment. She currently serves as Program Manager & Assistant to the Artistic/Executive Director at the Youth Symphony of Kansas City, helping guide one of the region’s leading youth arts organizations while actively supporting its ensembles, artistic programming, and educational outreach.
Previously, Ashley served as Department Chair and Director of Bands and Orchestra at Lincoln Northeast High School in Nebraska, where her ensembles consistently earned superior festival ratings under her direction. She has also led musical theater productions, guest-taught at university festivals, adjudicated performance events, and maintained a thriving private woodwinds studio.
Whether empowering emerging musicians through YSKC or mentoring one-on-one in her teaching studio, Ashley is dedicated to building confidence, community, and lifelong artistry through music.
